Buffalo Creek Reservoir

Located in Lake County Forest Preserve’s Buffalo Creek Preserve, an existing reservoir was expanded to reduce flood damages along Buffalo Creek within several local municipalities.

After multiple iterations, an alternative that added 180 acre-feet of additional storage was selected. This plan which was found to be cost beneficial based upon analyses performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, balances earthwork on site in an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sensitive manner. The project also provided public access improvements desired by Lake County Forest Preserves including over two miles of new trails, 7 new bridges/boardwalks, and expanded visitor parking.
