Chicago Park District
Park 566 Framework Plan
A consultant team led by Hey and Associates, Inc. was selected by the Chicago Park District to prepare a framework plan for an undeveloped parcel of land along the shores of Lake Michigan. Known as Park 566, this site is one of the last four miles of Chicago’s lakefront that is not public open space. Park 566 is part of the old U.S. Steel Plant on Chicago’s south side, and will connect the existing Rainbow Beach and Steelworker’s Parks. The project included numerous meetings with community stakeholders to help guide the future of this unique site. The final master plan for this site includes parking, a multi-tiered trail system, several scenic overlooks, interpretation of the site’s industrial history, a large multi-purpose turf open area, nature themed playground, fitness stations, and extensive lakefront habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife.
The framework plan can be found on the Chicago Park District’s Website.
