Forest Park Bluff

The City of Lake Forest’s 29-acre Forest Park is home to walking paths, a concession stand, sheltered pavilions, a boat launch, a fishing pier, and an incredible view of Lake Michigan from atop a towering bluff. Beginning in 2020, Hey began a multi-year monitoring effort to continuously assess bluff conditions. In addition to field observations and topographical survey, inclinometers, groundwater gauges, and survey-grade drone support high-quality field data collection.

Building on this monitoring and assessment effort, we also developed a conceptual design plan to manage groundwater and stabilize the bluff face. Mitigating slope movement by addressing multiple stability components will help the City protect existing infrastructure and preserve the integrity of this unique landscape feature, while also incorporating native bluff restoration and stormwater best management practices.
