Fab Fox! Water Trail Kane County Access Project

In June 2023, U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Haaland designated the Fox River from Lisbon, Wisconsin to its confluence with the Illinois River in Ottawa, Illinois a National Water Trail. This designation helped Kane County secure over $1M in funding including:

  • Federal American Rescue Plan funding for planning, marketing, and infrastructure for new and improved access and signage.

  • Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity Tourism & Attractions grants for improvement to and construction of new access sites.

Hey is working with Kane County and local public landowner agencies to identify potential river access infrastructure projects. Projects may involve new launches, public restrooms near river access, temporary paddler equipment lock-up/storage, connections between river and local businesses, water trail signage, off-street parking for river access, improved universal accessibility for river access, and site furnishings.
